The
Product
Johnson Wax approached Des Moines Stamp in 1963 with the opportunity to manufacture and
market this revolutionary new product for Iowa. Des Moines Stamp
accepted the offer and now sells the product in 17 states and is the
largest Perma Stamp manufacturer in the United States.
The
Perma Stamp is actually ink and plastic molded by heat and pressure to
create a pre-inked stamp. Each stamp has thousands of microscopic ink
pores that release ink when the printing die touches paper. The fine
pore structure is one of the secrets that create 25,000 razor sharp
impressions without an ink pad. Each new batch of ink is tested to insure it produces at least
25,000 impressions.
The
12 step manufacturing process only takes a few days. The last day of
production includes a final quality control check and a third
proofreading.
The
stamps are available in black, red, blue, green and purple ink.
Although there are 58 stock stamps in the Perma Stamp catalog, custom
made stamps comprise over 95% of sales.
Perma
Stamp is the main product sold by our sales force but we also offer
stamp racks, daters, numberers, inspection stamps, engraved nameplates
and signs.
Regardless of the computer age, people still need stamps.
New stamp uses are created daily.
The demand for a quality pre-inked stamp that eliminates a mess
and increases productivity has never been stronger.
Sales
Opportunities
The product was originally marketed through office supply stores but
they were unable to promote the product effectively so a direct sales
force was developed.
Today
our independent contractors have approximately 12,000 potential
business accounts in their territories.
We only assign one sales representative per territory and most
territories have an existing customer base. Our representatives make face to face
sales calls (using a proven sales demonstration) on nearly every
business in their territory, write orders and distribute catalogs.
Many of the catalogs distributed result in an order at a later date.
Each day our sales representatives mail or fax their orders to the home office to be
manufactured, invoiced and shipped back to the customer.
Every
Thursday a commission check is wired directly to each sales representatives bank
account paying for orders shipped to their territory the previous
week. Full commission is
paid on ALL orders sent directly to Des Moines by the customer. This
means every mail, phone, fax, email and website order that customers
send directly to Des Moines Stamp are paid the same way as if the
sales representative actually wrote the order.
To
produce the results needed to be successful, many short, effective
product demonstrations are made each day to all types of businesses.
Our best customers are small to medium sized businesses with
the ability to make quick decisions. Small businesses are the fastest
growing segment of our economy.
